Road Trip Revenge III - a 55
with visions of a disemboweled body
left in an area know to inhabit wolves.
Mouth stuffed with its own intestines.
Eyes blinking in disbelief
as it slowly drained
of life giving fluids.
It all seemed so real,
yet he had to ask himself
– was it just a dream?

Theme Thursday - Wrinkles
he furrowed and unfurrowed his smooth, flawless brow.
"If my forehead had lines," he thought to himself,
"I would appear more wise and people will treat me with more respect."
He laughed heartily at the mirror,
carefully examining the edges of his eyes.
"With laugh lines people will know
my sense of humor is rich
and will perceive me a joy to be around,"
he said leaning in for a closer look,
cursing his baby skin and wishing he looked older.
Now well into his fifties,
he gazes at his stoic reflection
daring not to move a muscle
for fear yet another line
may crease his aging appearance.
His face relaxed
in an effort to halt the aging process,
keep wrinkles at bay
and recapture a fleeting youth.
He pines for the days
when his face was smooth
and his eyes were not perched on fleshy pillows.
When the only wrinkles he wore
were on his clothing
and hadn't migrated to his face.

Wings of dreams
through the shear curtains of my room,
I roll over to see
the form sleeping next to me.
What dreams flutter through the mind?
Far away places.
Cold mountain lakes
caressed by melting snow.
Picnic tables overlooking a battered bridge
and a slow moving river.
Starlit skies
through the glass roof
of a downtown hotel.
Children's smiles and laughter.
The silly, silent actions
of a hand puppet
professing its love.
Reading a favorite bedtime story
to a child.
A full moon
trying desperately
to cast its glow
on roses in bloom.
A warm stone bench
in a hidden garden spot.
Beach grass swaying
in a warm summer breeze
with the echoing sound of waves
providing the rhythm for the dance.
A tango.
A soft, lingering kiss,
tender, full of love.
Strong but gentle arms
encircling, holding, loving.
A lone owl caught
in the headlights of a car,
silent, staring, wise and unafraid.
Raven.
Eagles.
Heron.
Falling then flying.
Soaring on wings.
Wings made from dreams.

Spare Change 160
with her back to the curb,
she examines the dollar
she was handed
as if it were counterfeit
or perhaps
she had not seen paper money before.

Road Trip Revenge 55 Part II
was big enough to not notice a stranger
yet too small to give complete anonymity.
All that was needed was
a few days to watch
the habits of his prey,
choose the best time to strike
and ponder how to make the kill.
He would show this evil bastard real predation.

Show your best side challenge
That being said and with creativity being so subjective coupled with the fact that I am wishy washy, I am posting two sets of five. Now I have never said I am trying to maintain any sort of pictorial anonymity because I have made appearances in an early blog called "The Gentleman Child" and in "The Monkey House". Although Monkey House was only a reflection of me.
Here is set of five number one -
Gettin' ready to go huntin' bar with Dan'l Boone -age four.
Enjoying a bit of Northwest sunshine.
At my best in black and white.
Wondering how long it will be before the rain starts again.
Now for set number two - A day at the beach.
Now the hard part. Five things I like about myself: 1) I am loyal - to a fault; 2) I am not afraid to do something stupid in public - stupid being anything that embarrasses my kids which leave the door pretty wide open; 3) I am open minded; 4) I am willing to change and; 5) I have a great sense of humor.
Now five bloggers I push this curse off on like some unwanted plague of a chain letter.

Theme Thursday - Pets
Gotten rid of
Given away
Tossed aside
Disposed of
Sent to the pound
The shelter
Dumped in a field near a farm
At a park
Living creatures treated like so much refuse
Puppies
Kittens
Ducks
Bunnies
Even reptiles
Bought to make a child happy
To fix an ailing relationship
Because the are so cute
Because I have always wanted one
Then discarded because they are
Out of control
No longer cute
Too loud
Too big
Too expensive
Dangerous
Pets are a responsibility requiring
Care
Training
Love
Affection
Attention
And they give in return
Love
Affection
Attention
and, yes, given an opportunity, they train us
Adopt
Rescue
Save
Foster
Animals deserve a chance
and sometimes a second chance

Why Monkey Man.

Monkey Madness
My home is what some might call Monkey Central. It began a number of years ago with the acquisition of a single long armed, stuffed creature named Rabies and has grown exponentially since then.

Fresh 160???

“There are no new ideas,” he said matter-of-factly.
“What about…?”
“Been done.”
“Or…?”
“Done.”
“Then what am I doing wasting my time on this stupid Sunday 160?”

Road Trip Revenge 55
kept him alert
during the six hour drive
across the rolling
wheat covered hills.
Revenge was his prime motivation.
The excitement of the hunt
made him feel more alive
than he had felt in months.
Finally, he would remove
the monkey from his back
and rid the world
of this horrible predator.
