Sunday 160 - Rockets Red Glare

Darkness left the sky
as explosions filled the void.
It was at once beautiful
and deathly.
Shells screamed and burst
with unforgiving fire.
July 4 was a thrill.
____________

Here's wishing all of you a Happy Fourth of July...even if you don't live in the States.

I love Independence Day! No illegal fireworks at our house this year. Last year the sheriff visited and almost gave us a $2000 ticket. I think I'll it safe this year. Boo.

Love this... tragic, yet celebratory... always a contrast bursting in the skies.

Beautiful sky fires.
In my neighborhood it's illegal but already we've got the fireworks flying all around us.
I hope these people save some for Monday.
Happy Independence Day, MM.
My 160 is here.

I WILL twist your arm and get some sparklers, at least. Right? Pretty please?

Nice imagery with words, as usual.

Happy 4th...

It is so dry in Texas right now, although it DID rain just yesterday, that they banned all fireworks in the area that I live. Boo! But, I guess burned down houses and wildfires would be a worse thing.

I like the imagery in this, and how something as celebratory as the fourth of july could act as a foil for something tragic like war and fighting. very good job with this one.

Awesome piece! I was just telling Madelene the other night while we were watching the fireworks, "Could you imagine if that was war you heard about 2 miles from us?" Scary if you think about it . . . Odd how they came up with that type of celebration, right?

Sounds like that 'night' before the 'flag was still there...that Star Spangled Banner, still waving 235 years later, Hmmmmm?
