Life in 55

Old clothes.
Photo albums.
A collection of mirrors
that once hung on a wall.
Boxes of books:
Biographies;
Fiction;
Non-fiction;
Cookbooks;
Self help;
and journals.
We carefully explored each,
seeking contact
or some small message from beyond.
She does not disappoint.
Notes in margins.
Notes on scraps paper.
One read:
“Life is full of surprises.”

I've always believed that life is not only full of surprises, I find that it's also all about our relationships with one another. I am glad that she is still talking with you...great 55.

yes, inside books are lives from the author's and messages from the owner and reader. for the truth, you must look carefully...

great insight here Monkey Man!

A beautiful 55. i am sure going threw your mother's things is very difficult. The little messages and rememberances must be bitter sweet.

I love it! Your piece made me imagine what my boys might find one day when they have to go through my stuff - and now I'm going to make sure I leave some really special ones too!

You guys are too smart for me.

If I ever want to feel ignorant all I have to do is either attack the NY Time’s Sunday crossword puzzle or try to keep up with you guys and your writing abilities.

Awesome, MM! I did the same thing when my mom was gone. I also do this with my stuff so someday my children will go on a "treasure hunt" until they find bits and pieces of me everywhere.

Keep writing and I promise to keep reading because you are one of the real deal monkeys in this jungle.

I love this,MM. It sounds like rediscovering Mom in the attic after she is gone.
