Last Rites 55

As they pulled the plug
I felt a sense of relief.
Breathing stopped being mechanical
and the universe expanded before me.
This world had run its course.
It was time to take the next big step
into unknown territory.
Fear.
Excitement.
Anxiety.
Loss.
Freedom.
One certainty –

I would never go to that horrible job again.

Last Tuesday I gave last rites to my job of six and a half years. It started as a sales job with a small locally owned company and turned into a political nightmare after we were purchased by a multi-billion dollar conglomerate that wanted a melting pot of PC purity so anyone with an opinion, personality or sense of humor was quickly squashed, fired or left. I was fired. Now I am free to pursue my number one goal - Happiness.

Sometimes a parting of ways is not a loss at all but a rebirth of sorts.

Monkey Man, I meant every word of the email I sent you! You are worthy of greatness and happiness. I hope that you enjoy every minute of every day because everything will work out for the better. I'm living proof.

I have to say congratulations! It's no fun working with assholes...I know this much is true!

You'll probably end up being your own boss since you have a strong personality like the man I'm married to.

Wishing you all the best and much happiness always, my friend.

You can swing from this, Monkey Man:
you didn't need that wretched job for anything. The right thing will find you before you know it, and meanwhile keep writing!

You rock.

Monkey Man! That was a powerful post. I had no idea you lost your job and I am sorry, but that said, from the little I know of you, you will find something so much better and you will be so much happier. Being in a work place like that is NO place for a monkey of your intelligence.
Hope you have a good weekend and CLEANSE the negative crap from that job.

Sorry to hear about the "firing" part of your job; I'm too polite to type what I actually think of takeovers like that.

And yet, a small part of me, trapped in a similar politically correct situation [and me with a sense of humor!] was jumping up and down yelling, "You go boy! Run towards happiness as fast as you can!"

Let us know what you find that makes you happy. Sending good wishes your way.

May your abundant integrity and talent take you in a better direction now that you are free of those fools.
