Brrrrrr

The dark gray clouds
rolled ominously
over the forested hills,
completely enveloping them
in gloom.
The small sliver
of blue sky
that remained
hid and shivered in the cold.
Frost struck windows
and roofs
with its expanding
white crystals.
The last of fall’s leaves
curled tight
to keep themselves warm.
Winter arrived with a sneer.

You made winter sound as uncaring and menacing as it feels. Yikes! This is fantastic.

Keep yourself warm Monkey Man!

I loved your lines about the leaves curling up to keep warm. The whole poem inspired me to be more artistic in my writing. Really wonderful piece. And by the way, what you wrote about my 55 was SO CLEVER!! Your comment was better than my 55!

Living in South Florida I never see the scene you describe. I love your 55 because it reminds me of the winters of my youth.

Very good to see you posting again. I've missed your posts.
I'm freezing. 19 and 49? I need a warm place to spend the winters.

Wow! Loved that last line. Beautiful photo of hoarfrost, too. I assume you took it? Are those the little helicopter seed pods?

The feel of frost was felt powerfully in these words. Good one.

Beautifully done! That's exactly how I envision winter's arrival... slowly enveloping us with its frosty touch and not caring in the least how we are affected by it. (Yes, living in Canada has made me a little bitter towards it.) Wonderful 55!

As we say around here in our false German accent: Vunderbar! Glad I got a heater in the sunroom office tonight.
