A New Life Part IV - in 55

Days seemed like weeks.
Hours like days.
Minutes immeasurable.
The cold metal truck bed
had rattled her bones
so she thought she might never again
feel the steadiness of earth.
Yet she smiled
as she breathed in air
so sweet
it felt like heaven entering her lungs.
Eyes closed,
she willed the truck to stop.

You pack so much vivid description in so few words...really neat. I feel like I'm in the truck being jostled around. Can't wait to see what happens next.

Reminded me of riding on the bare metal seat of the 1950s McCormick tractor we had when I was a kid. Boing! Boing! Boing!

the cold metal truck bed - like this

The steadiness of the earth is overrated especially when the air tastes so sweet.

This series is something wonderful to behold.

Love your description of the truck - just gorgeous imagery.

Yes, I'm back. Just read the comment you left on my blog, and I'm still laughing. Wanted to tell you that you would have written the post better than I did, "When I say Justin, you say sucks!" That's poetic!

I want to breathe that kind of 'sweet air' too. I haven't caught up with the saga...just enjoyed the stand alone vibe of this. :)

That is the same feeling I had when at sea except I never wanted the ship to stop.

You're doing so well with this that no matter how HOT it is outside, I can feel the bone rattling chill from riding in the back of that truck!

Loved the part about breathing in heaven. As someone who spent a good part of this year struggling for a deep breath, this really spoke to me.
