Pillars

The pillar stood supporting weight many times its own.
Straining to hold together
all that appeared to be
crumbling around it.
Rain falling like tears
stained the broad support
but didn't erode its stability.
The more weight it endured
the more it attracted.
Yearning to show it too
needed support,
all it could allow
was cold and unfeeling strength.

"Yearning to show it too needed support."

No matter how strong we may appear, we always need a little support and help from those who are close to us.

Beautifully written!

Yet the strongest of pillars are only as strong as their support - their base. If the mighty pillar has a week base, it will topple just like the weak ones. So if you want to be a pillar, surround yourself with a strong, stolid base; be it family, friends or coworkers.

Just as you have so eloquently described in this poem...support is critical in holding everything together. But even the strongest of supports have there breaking point, if they are left to carry a load on their own!

We all need support ... to help us through the tuff times that life throws us. We all require a place to feel loved & understood! A place of refuge & rest!!

or is it, because we have support, we have strength....

At times it is best to be un emotional and dry while supporting the weaker roof and pilasters. There will be time enough for weakness later when all around the pillar is eroded and it is no longer needed.

Too many people make pillars of their loved ones without realizing it. Too many loved ones become pillars without protesting and don't know how to change. That's when hearts break.

Excellent read. "The more weight it endured the more it attracted"--insightful.
