Mystical Rites 55

It was an annual rite of passage,
each tribe carrying its own tradition
and method of celebration.
For some it was the proper painting of skin.
For others it was all about
ritualistic garb, headdress or mask.
Regardless, all sought great reward
for their efforts
and consistently repeated
the proper magic incantation –

Trick or Treat!

Trick or treat is an incantation that has not lost its magic.

Haha! Nice, very seasonally relevant. Plus, I didn't see it coming, so bonus points for that! :)

Trick or TrEAT!! Love the smiling faces that come around every year. Great 55

No need for a trick. That was a real treat, MM.

Yes, it's that time of year. And everyone does indeed do their own thing. You should have seen the get-up my wife wore last year to welcome trick-or-treaters. Wicked witch, fog, scary, cobwebs, scary music. The kids in the neighborhood loved it here.

Interesting. Can you find pictures of anything on the internet? I wonder what costume you wore when you were 5?

Love the picture.
This is my favorite of rites. My son is ready to transform into Luke Skywalker, his dad is going as Luke too. Me? Yeah, we couldn't put together another Luke Skywalker get up. So two Lukes and me can't wait for trick-or-treat time!
You're 55 is a nice treat!

You got me! Without seeing the photo, I thought you were discussing aceremonial rite of passage and the different impacts on individuals. Excellent and fun!

This has me smiling! The set-up was wonderful.

That's both sentimental and touching and very very creepy. Makes me think of the Lil Rascals. Beautiful imagery.

Wow, that's an oldie, and a goodie of a picture!

I wonder who first dressed up for Halloween? It's really a North American thing, I'm learning.

Excellent!!
I had a whole lot of tribal thoughts running through my head until the punchline...
I wonder if any vuvuzelas will make their presence heard over there this year.
Happy Halloween!

I coulda sworn I'd already commented on this one. (I'm glad I double-checked!)

Anyways, neat 55, MM... Halloween was always my favorite holiday as a kid, even overshadowing my birthday. (Guess it was all that candy!)

Great writing, but those are some of the creepiest Halloween costumes I've seen in a while!

Charlene Amsden said...

Those goblins in the photo look more like tricksters than treaters! If they said "Boo!" to me, I'd run!

Enchanted Oak said...

We're always overrun by these tribal folk on the 31st. They scare the peawadden out of me, so I make Mr. Enchanted Oak answer the door whilst I hide out with the doggies.

Now THAT's some scary costuming!

Happy weekend to you.

For those curious about the photo...I found it on the internet and I think it is really old.
*smiles and winks*

One thing is certain - it is NOT me. Nope. I'm old, but not that old.
