It was an annual rite of passage,
each tribe carrying its own tradition
and method of celebration.
For some it was the proper painting of skin.
For others it was all about
ritualistic garb, headdress or mask.
Regardless, all sought great reward
for their efforts
and consistently repeated
the proper magic incantation –
Trick or Treat!

An excellent lead-in to Halloween! You've done it again, MM.
Clever - wonder what another culture would think of those pictures???
Happy 55

It's getting closer and closer!
Great Job MM.
Loved your 55 My Friend.
Thanks for your great support as well. Thanks for playing, and have a Kick Ass Week-End...G
Trick or treat is an incantation that has not lost its magic.
Haha! Nice, very seasonally relevant. Plus, I didn't see it coming, so bonus points for that! :)
hahaha, i never guessed it but you led up to it well! trick or treat indeed.
How fun! I just love the picture you've put with this.

Trick or TrEAT!! Love the smiling faces that come around every year. Great 55
No need for a trick. That was a real treat, MM.
Yes, it's that time of year. And everyone does indeed do their own thing. You should have seen the get-up my wife wore last year to welcome trick-or-treaters. Wicked witch, fog, scary, cobwebs, scary music. The kids in the neighborhood loved it here.
Interesting. Can you find pictures of anything on the internet? I wonder what costume you wore when you were 5?
Love the picture.
This is my favorite of rites. My son is ready to transform into Luke Skywalker, his dad is going as Luke too. Me? Yeah, we couldn't put together another Luke Skywalker get up. So two Lukes and me can't wait for trick-or-treat time!
You're 55 is a nice treat!
Ha! Halloween is around the corner! Have a great trick or treat!
Reminds me of the candy walking sticks!
It's that time of year again. Nice one.
Brilliant and what a fantastic picture!! :o)
I've never thought of Trick or Treat as a rite of passage.... but Samhain is always celebrated in our house!
Loved this! Awesome words, awesome picture.
Great call to Halloweeen
Me liked!
:)
what a nice halloween 55!
You got me! Without seeing the photo, I thought you were discussing aceremonial rite of passage and the different impacts on individuals. Excellent and fun!
This has me smiling! The set-up was wonderful.
That's both sentimental and touching and very very creepy. Makes me think of the Lil Rascals. Beautiful imagery.
Wow, that's an oldie, and a goodie of a picture!
I wonder who first dressed up for Halloween? It's really a North American thing, I'm learning.
xo
Works like a charm, I'm glad to say.
Oh nice! Loved this one, MM!
Excellent!!
I had a whole lot of tribal thoughts running through my head until the punchline...
I wonder if any vuvuzelas will make their presence heard over there this year.
Happy Halloween!
I coulda sworn I'd already commented on this one. (I'm glad I double-checked!)
Anyways, neat 55, MM... Halloween was always my favorite holiday as a kid, even overshadowing my birthday. (Guess it was all that candy!)
Mister One-Six-Zero...gooood picture and Hallowed eve message. thank you and thanks for dropping by mine!

Great writing, but those are some of the creepiest Halloween costumes I've seen in a while!
Those goblins in the photo look more like tricksters than treaters! If they said "Boo!" to me, I'd run!
We're always overrun by these tribal folk on the 31st. They scare the peawadden out of me, so I make Mr. Enchanted Oak answer the door whilst I hide out with the doggies.
Now THAT's some scary costuming!
Happy weekend to you.
fun 55er which -- are you the 'monkey in the middle'
Nice write,
Joanny
I love this my friend. You had me thinking totally some other direction LOL Love it and very clever and great lead in for Halloween. :) Have a great Friday :)
ok fess up where did you get that pic! fun 55!
So what will be your boys' incantation this year?
This post is priceless! Perfect timing, too.
For those curious about the photo...I found it on the internet and I think it is really old.
*smiles and winks*
One thing is certain - it is NOT me. Nope. I'm old, but not that old.
Those are my favourite words!
Have a great and fun filled week end!
I posted something today. Good to be back but not sure i can post as often as i would before due to work.
But it's good to be blog walking when i can again..
Hugs,
Silver
your words are a treat!
I can't wait to be an Avatar. Never too old for a costume party.
Mine is up
So....do you TAKE OFF your monkey suit on Halloween?
Dianne
Not the pic I was expecting. Happy Halloween!
excellent-ly done,
Monkey :)
