rolled ominously
over the forested hills,
completely enveloping them
in gloom.
The small sliver
of blue sky
that remained
hid and shivered in the cold.
Frost struck windows
and roofs
with its expanding
white crystals.
The last of fall’s leaves
curled tight
to keep themselves warm.
Winter arrived with a sneer.
