Last Rites 55

As they pulled the plug
I felt a sense of relief.
Breathing stopped being mechanical
and the universe expanded before me.
This world had run its course.
It was time to take the next big step
into unknown territory.
Fear.
Excitement.
Anxiety.
Loss.
Freedom.
One certainty –

I would never go to that horrible job again.

Last Tuesday I gave last rites to my job of six and a half years. It started as a sales job with a small locally owned company and turned into a political nightmare after we were purchased by a multi-billion dollar conglomerate that wanted a melting pot of PC purity so anyone with an opinion, personality or sense of humor was quickly squashed, fired or left. I was fired. Now I am free to pursue my number one goal - Happiness.

The Man in the Moon

Like a Cheshire cat it smiles down upon the world.
What does it know?
Is it laughing at our plight?
Or pleased?
We stand watching with our primitive minds.
Not knowing.
Ever in wonderment.
Feeling small at the scope and depth of the universe.
The Cheshire grin will grow to full wide eyes as the days progress.
Just a rock?
Or the glue that holds us to our muddy ball
and tugs our emotions as the view of white expands.

Valentine 160

She carefully removed
the wrapping and
opened the box inside
to reveal its contents.
“It's empty”, she said.
“No it's not”, he replied.
“I filled it with love.”
