55 - Fall Creeps

The lone leaf loosed the grasp
of its wooden perch
and drifted slowly to their feet.
Huddled close,
as the evening’s chill
sucked the last warmth
from the day,
they felt the shift to Fall
in the full moon’s cool illumination,
the smell of drifting fireplace smoke
and the haunting hoots of an unseen owl.

The very best of Fall, right here. That full moon sure did light the pathway for the falling leaves and transition into colder temperatures.

Beautiful write, MM.

You're getting me in the mood to match the weather, something I've been resisting.

That was beautiful! At least you didn't name it autumn creeps. Hee hee. I went out to enjoy the full moon last night and make a wish. When I was done, I heard the hooting of an owl. Not 10 feet away from me on the iron fence, he sat there staring at me and hooting. I'll take it as a sign. It was very magical. Of course, it's nearly 100 in the daytime here still, but nights at least can cool off now. That's autumn in the desert.

Where you on my back porch with me tonight? I didn't see you there, but you certainly captured the moment and shared it eloquently.

Every time I read a lovely ode to fall like this I think of the song Autumn Leaves--my mother used to play the Frank Sinatra version incessantly this time of year--hated it as a kid, but now...not so much.

dig this one, MM...it reminds me what is missing from making these crisp, full moon nights completely spooky..no hooting, boo! ~

I didn't know where I was for a second when I read this. don't get me wrong! I LOVE this piece. You capture the feel of fall perfectly, but I am just so not used to you being so ...
lyrical?

anyway, I better get out of here before I stuff my foot in my mouth even further. Have a super weekend MM!
