Shadows of branches swaying on my wall
What scared me as a child
is a spirit keeper today.
The trees, they speak in their windblown ebb and flow.
Tossing leaves at my window to get my attention.
Look at me, they say.
Hear me with your eyes
What scared me as a child
is a spirit keeper today.
The trees, they speak in their windblown ebb and flow.
Tossing leaves at my window to get my attention.
Look at me, they say.
Hear me with your eyes
for that is how you will know me.
See my naked limbs not as death
but as life shed from which to rebuild anew.
Heed my steady acceptance.
Feel my willingness to bare my soul,
as I find growth after the shock of winter’s chill.

So great to have you at One Shot today Keith
I like the positive spin on the usually dark shadow theme

smiles...what scared you once now brings comfort...and yes your perspective is refreshing...
i like the last lines..the willingness to bare the soul and the growth after the shock - speaks of more than just winter chill..nice
very inspirational, excellent.
Many things seen from the adult perspective are far friendlier than when we were kids.
I like the idea of the once-feared shadows now being spirit keepers.
Neat One Shot, Double-M!
what a great perception of winter! "to rebuild anew"
Those shdaows ont he wall -- those limbs (the trees and our own) -- it's all right. Great poem.
Hear me with your eyes...love it.

This is so cool. Your poem is reminding me how last winter I fell in love with naked trees, and what they said to me was pretty similar to what your trees are saying... Love it.

Situations that scare us as children often take us on different emotional paths when we become adults.
That was perfect for me today. Thank you.

Solid 'child to adult POV' poem.
Amazing how a few years can change our perspective and make something scary seem okay now. Lovely poem.
