The cold bed of the truck
gave way to the early warmth of a Spring day.
The family bumped and bruised
out of the freezing mountain air
and dropped down
a long road next to the widest,
most beautiful river
she had ever seen.
Although it seemed near its end,
her journey was just beginning.

I could feel the bouncy truck ride. I'm going to have to do some homework to and see where this started and then stay tuned to see where this is going :)

as i was reading i thought this had a depression era feel to it. you obviously captured it well. love that there is personal history in it.
You've got me trying to figure out which river it might be and wondering if they are still rolled up in a mattress.

Please say you're going to keep telling this tale! I want to know how everyone manages in their new life.
wonderfully done. I recognized it immediately.
how we make eachother's lives alive across the ether!
and across the decades and centuries.
I love the brevity of the 55 and 160. ...so OCD and type A overachiever, I learn from concise parameters.
I've always loved wide rivers and beautiful summer days. I'm posted and ready to be read. Just follow the link below.

The hardest step of a journey is the first...
That the Colorado River?
No journey ever ends. When it ends it changes from journey to destination.
