55 - A Rose by any other name

Battered, bruised and browning
they held on for dear life
as the season was coming to an end.
As petals fell to the ground
the essence of their beauty
was left in the sweet
aromatic fragrance
that trailed in the air.
If you were to close your eyes,
you could still picture the perfect bloom.

Hey, human. If I had a finger, I'd put it down my throat. Roses! Bluck! Good riddance! (I still feel compelled to tell you, that was a well written piece even if I don't like the subject. I'm not a totally uneducated ventriloquist doll).

"Held on for dear life as the season was coming to an end."

Wait, I've got it!
It's a metaphor for R.E.M, right?

(*pause*)

(*crickets*)

...right?

Sigh.
Fine.

That reminds me, I'm mentioning you (sort of) in my next Jannaverse post.
I think it's scheduled to drop on Sunday night.

As the character Dr. Ian Malcolm said in "Jurassic Park": Life finds a way.

But enough of my whimpering... back to you. That was sweet. Live that you see beauty around you

It certainly is the season of browning. And your last two lines....how true. Thanks for the ode to the lovely rose.

Great look at the change of seasons. Poignant.

awww yes, it's sad to see them die, but, I guess it is the cycle of life. They sleep through winter so they are re-born anew in spring.
Lovely 55!

I trimmed back my roses a couple of weeks ago and now I have a new crop of blooms. Not sure how they'll last though.

Monkeyman, you're a total romantic! (Don't worry, I wont tell anyone).
Seasons end, we all age, even those fading roses. Lovely 55.

My roses too are fading fast - the last big blooms were roasted by a heat wave that struck here a few weeks back, but I'm not ready to decapitate them yet.

Nothing brings back the memory of a rose like those crushed petals. Loved this one, MM, and your WTH wednesday--I am sooo baffled by this whole concept of collecting unknown total strangers and getting them to call you friend, and that proving something (??) that the story doesn't even surprise me.

tossing you a vine...heck a whole rose as I picked it from you blog, hope you don't mind...fab 55~

Matter fades. Perfection doesn't (at least in the mind).

Beautiful and true as the roses of summer. It is reminding me that next year I must take much better care of my rose bushes. I was in a funk this year and my beautiful roses suffered because of it.
