The Touch - 55

The writing was prolific.
Every time I turned around
there was something else to read.
I thought, “When was the last time I read a book?
All I ever do is read from this screen.
I miss holding pulp, feeling the tooth of paper,
turning the pages and
setting a book mark for next time."

I agree, but the only time I read my real books is when I'm in the tub and now they're all curled in their pages and steamed up. I guess that gives them more character.

I love a good book, doesn't really matter if it's paper or on my e-reader. Is that weird? They both have good stuff going for them, really.

Currently reading a novel called "Drowing Ruth" on my ereader, reading "Bird by Bird" by Anne Lammott in paper (a book on writing). I almost always have more than one book on the go!

I prefer the printed & bound variety of reading material. This 55 made me want to go to the used book store and smell the old books and touch the yellowing pages.

Happy Weekend!

I loved this 55, Monkey Man. I can't go a day without picking up a book even if it's only to read for an hour - keeps me sane, I think. It's such a great tactile experience. Plus, computers just aren't great for lounging with!

I love this!
So true.
I love books too. You're right; it's not quite the same thing as reading on a computer screen.

Lately I've been reading a non-fiction book called Mindhunter. It's by the guy who developed the FBI's current system of criminal profiling.
Sounds dull, maybe, but it's really fascinating.
And it makes me feel normal by comparison.

I used to read real books all the time. Then things got in the way, and then I started blogging, so that meant reading, writing, and commenting. I can't remember the past paper book I finished. :(

Can't put a good book down. Can't say that about a screen

Great 55--I have book issues--whole rooms over-flowing with them. I think about doing ebooks purely for the space saving involved, because I hardly have a wall in my house without a bookcase on it, but so far I can't bring myself to do it. I like to hold them and read them up close and personal.

I can't live without a book on the go. I'm currently taking part in the Transworld Publisher challenge. They've sent me a crime fiction book to read and review. I can have up to three if I'm quick about it! (there will be more details on the blog soon)

So true, and I loved the discription, it made me want to grab a book and start reading right now.

I'm in that place myself. One of the bad sides of blogging. I'm surrounded by them, all screaming read me.

Ipads are better than laptops but the feel of turning actual pages is irreplaceable. A lovely and relatable 55. Have a great weekend.

I haven't tried an e-reader so I honestly have no horse in this race, yet. Though I do like the fact of touch and writing in the margins!

Without Words is my 55 this week.

I am bad about not reading books but getting better at it this year since I have one of my own out.

I am so with you on this - I am TOTALLY against the Kindle.

What a pity you have so little time right now. I just finished reading The Hunger Games and Catching Fire. Good times.

I have at least a hundred books here to read but, except for unabridged books on CD in the car
( I can't go a block without one playing ), I just can't seem to tear myself away from the computer till 3AM!

Mine is at:

Like the new "ways" of reading, but I LOVE my books. Nothing like spending hours getting lost in a used book store.

i'm all about the sensuality of a book, the feel, the light on the page, the sound of the paper turning, and the smell of them whether they are old or new.

Jannie Funster said...

I SO know what you mean. I miss books too.

LOVE the tooth of paper.

I will never own a Kindle because I love the feel of books too much. Clicking a button is not the same as turning a page.

My co-workers think I'm nuts because I use lunch time to read.

Nicely done!

Oh Gosh, MM...you said it!! I MISS READING TOOO!!! There's a pile of unread books on my shelf... WAITING to be read!! Grrrrr

Will start as soon as I am done reading this 55! ;)

I love this! I prefer paper compared to the screen any time. I am reading 'Man's search for meaning' by Viktor Frankl again ~~ each time it reveals something new and beautiful about life.

Thanks Monkey Man for sharing this awesome post! :)
