Theme Thursday - Bicycle

The wind had blown the last of the flower petals away.
Sweepers and thieves had removed
the stuffed animals
along with the notes of love
and remembrance,
only leaving behind
as a monument
to the fallen.
Share the Road.

A woman on a motorcycle without a helmet was in an accident with a car last Friday. We all know who won! She was dead within 5 minutes. Someone at my Al-Anon meeting had been a witness to this. So sad.

I wear my helmet no matter what.

There are warnings on the ground here, "Beware, death monsters ahead."

There are wreaths on the corners of every major intersection in this town: brittle, dried reminders of how many cyclists are lost each year.

Thanks for writing about it, and so very succinctly. This one is haunting in so many ways...

I'm lucky that my encounter had a happy ending.

share the road should be in every driver's mind but unfortuantely it is up to the cyclist and the motor cyclist to be vigilant --your words bring to light this reality--here's hoping that the ghost bikes remind us all to slow down...great post!

Drivers need to learn to stay off the bike paths and out of the bike lanes.

Such a senseless loss of lives caused by impatient drivers not giving way & being cautious of bike riders! One of my husbands highschool friends had a friend in his earlier childhood who was knocked down on his bike on the gold coast. Bikes are a popular form of transportation on the gold coast, even back in those days. His friend copped a very bad hit to his head & died in my husbands friends arms. A terrible & tragic loss of life!

I saw this as you described it. Each line was alive. Ironic, that the lines live, but the bicyclist doesn't.

Thanks for sharing this. Too many times drivers forget there are others out there with them.

As a cyclist, I have almost bit it a couple of times. The sidewalks and fields have saved the day.
Thanks for the reminder my friend
